There’s just one day to go before you begin opening your Colour Compass advent calendars! If you have a yarn calendar, there is an exciting month ahead for you, and even if you don’t have a calendar, you can still participate in lots of the colourful fun that we have planned.

Every day in December will reveal a different shade of yarn and our colour compatriot, Felicity (Felix) Ford, will be joining in the fun with daily colour reveal posts that will inspire you and encourage you to explore the Colour Compass palette.

So each day in December you might like to:
- Open your numbered package for that day
- Squoosh the yarn and think about the colour. Is it a shade you love immediately? Or do you feel ambivalent about it? Why? What associations does this colour have for you? What memories does it carry?
- Hop over to Felix’s website for some daily chromatic inspiration and colour JOY
- Carry your ball of yarn around with you as you go about your day, and try to find a colourful object that speaks to it.
- With your phone, take a photograph of your ball of yarn alongside your colourful object
- Post the photo in the Everyday Colour thread in the KDD Ravelry Group and join Claire and other group members for some inspiring colour chat
- Reflect on what you have learned that day. How easy or difficult was it to find a colourful object that matched, or spoke to, your ball of yarn? How do variable lighting conditions, and different times of day affect the way you see (or feel about) each colour? Is this shade of blue (or red, or pink) one thing, or is it many?

We know everyone is busy in December, and there should be nothing pressurised about the process of opening and enjoying your calendar: feel free to play along as much or as little as you’d like.

But without any pressure, you might try to find a little time each day to reflect on that day’s colour in a way that best suits you. Regard opening your calendar as a small, daily opportunity to meditate on colour: to think about its associations for you in the world of everyday objects, as well as the meanings each colour carries for you in the equally important world of your own memories and imaginings.

Do you feel uncertain about colour? Do you feel overwhelmed by it? If so, here is a short talk from Felix that’s full of good advice.
In the first few minutes of this video, Felix talks about how there is no such thing as being good or bad with colour. Using colour effectively is much more about how experienced you are with working with it, and, as we all know as knitters, the only way to develop experience is to practice. So why not develop your own chromatic practice through the process of opening your advent calendar? Join us in our explorations of Everyday Colour! As you open each daily package and reveal each shade, you are also opening another opportunity to seek out, enjoy, and reflect upon the world of colour that’s all around you!

So summarise, on every day of advent, please:
- Open your calendar package
- Enjoy daily colour reveals with Felix
- Post your own inspiration photos and join in the colour chat over in the KDD Ravelry group
- Take a little time to think about colour in your own way
- Have fun!
And remember to take especial care opening your final calendar package as it contains instructions to download your Colour Compass ebook from a url and QR code . The ebook will not be available until December 24th.

I’ve just left a comment for Felix, telling her how much I’m enjoying her daily color reveals. I want to let you know as well. This is SUCH a treat! I cannot wait to see the patterns you’ve created for these glorious colors!
Aren’t the colors found in nature amazing?
Thank you for posting Felix’s talk. she is a treat.
Love the photo of Dumgoyne, the Campsies and the rainbow. I know this view so well because although I now live in the USA, my parents lived in Strathblane. This will be an inspirational memory photo for me. We used to picnic many a time at Milarrochy Bay growing up and I am now searching for a photo of one of those Loch Lomond days as another inspirational photo. Thanks so much Kate!
Waving from Carbeth, Jean!
Waving right back!!!
My dad would so often take my kids on what they called his “Let’s go and chat up some of the West Highland Walkers and see where they are from” idea for a morning walk. Mum and I would then meet them for lunch at the Beech Tree.
My daughter and I bought each other your West Highland Way Book for our birthdays and thoroughly enjoy knitting, reading and reliving the many parts of the Way that we have walked along……the Craigallian Hat being our favorite. Stronachlachar a close second!
And yesterday my husband managed to find a bottle of Glengoyne Single Malt ready for St Andrew’s Day!
I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to opening all these wonderful skeins with their wonderful memory provoking color names and putting them together in memory of such a wonderful part of the world.
Thank you so much for such a thoughtful way to observe Advent. I am going to love this and look forward to my journey.
